Titans Women's Lacrosse In Familiar Position

Detroit Mercy women's lacrosse is no stranger to needing a win in the regular-season finale to make the MAC tournament. 

In 2024 the Titans were the tournament's No. 4 seed after knocking off Kent State (?) in the regular-season finale. Detroit Mercy would finish the conference slate 3-3 overall. In 2025, they sit 2-3 after dropping their last three games. 

In two of the three losses, slow starts killed the Titans. They quickly fell behind 6-1 against Eastern Michigan and trailed Youngstown State 9-1 at one point last week. 

I spoke to head coach Alexa Matta after the Eastern Michigan loss. She said when they went back and watched film on the game, the offense was not what they had installed that week during practice. 

On the defensive side, it feels like Detroit Mercy has just lost their focus at that end of the field; surrendering 13, 19, and 19 goals during the three game skid.  

Despite all of that, the Titans - with a win on Sunday against Central Michigan - can replicate what they did a year ago. As they showed last May, all you have to do is get in and anything can happen. As it stands right now, Robert Morris would be the host. Detroit Mercy fell to them two weeks ago but the game was actually closer than the score would suggest. The two teams went toe-to-toe for three quarters before RMU took control in the fourth. The Titans might be interested in a rematch in the first round. 

For any of that to happen, Detroit Mercy needs to find its offensive identity again and 'lock in' - as the kids say - on defense.

Three of the four teams are set for the tourney; RMU, EMU, and Akron. Central Michigan and Detroit Mercy on Sunday will serve as a de facto playoff game to determine the No. 4 seed. You can catch the game at noon eastern on ESPN+ where I will be on the call.

2025 Premier Lacrosse Championship Series Preview

The Premier Lacrosse League (PLL) Championship Series begins Tuesday, Feb. 11 as the New York Atlas and Maryland Whipsnakes square off at 9 p.m. eastern.  I had PLL fantasy expert Paul Lamonaca and lacrosse betting expert Hutton Jackson on the podcast to break down the Championship Series. Premier Lacrosse League College Draft Preview

The Premier Lacrosse League (PLL) College Draft is Tuesday, May 6 at 7 p.m. eastern.  There have been several mock drafts thrown around in the last few weeks from various beat writers and insiders. There seems to be a consensus on who the first round players will be - it's just a matter of order. However, there could be some surprises on the horizon just like we saw with the NFL draft. Several notable names in the NFL Draft projected to go in the first round found themselves waiting until day two or - in Shedeur Sanders' case - day three.
