Detroit Mercy Readying For Year One Under Charlie Hayes

The University of Detroit Mercy men's lacrosse program is in a good position entering the 2025 season.

First year head coach Charlie Hayes joined the Taking The Field With Stevie Mac podcast hosted by Steven MacDonald to discuss the season.

"We're going to change a good amount of stuff around here," Hayes said.

Hayes hired former Johns Hopkins standout Zach Palmer to be the Offensive Coordinator. "When I met with him (Palmer) this summer - just listening to what he had in store for the offense - it was really exciting for me," Hayes said. "It's a good balance between some structure on the offensive side of the ball, but then a little bit of unstructured as well with a little bit of Canadian style free-flowing game."

MacDonald and Hayes also discussed the Titans' move from the ASUN to the NEC in 2025, where they will see familiar foes Robert Morris and Cleveland State. "The timing is great for us," Hayes stated. "Myself taking over as head coach gives us a little bit of a new chapter in our program."

Hayes believes the Titans have the team and the schedule to be able to compete right away. The Titans officially open the 2025 season with a road tilt against The Ohio State Buckeyes on February 4.
