Titans Women's Lacrosse In Familiar Position

Image
Detroit Mercy women's lacrosse is no stranger to needing a win in the regular-season finale to make the MAC tournament.  In 2024 the Titans were the tournament's No. 4 seed after knocking off Kent State (?) in the regular-season finale. Detroit Mercy would finish the conference slate 3-3 overall. In 2025, they sit 2-3 after dropping their last three games.  In two of the three losses, slow starts killed the Titans. They quickly fell behind 6-1 against Eastern Michigan and trailed Youngstown State 9-1 at one point last week.  I spoke to head coach Alexa Matta after the Eastern Michigan loss. She said when they went back and watched film on the game, the offense was not what they had installed that week during practice.  On the defensive side, it feels like Detroit Mercy has just lost their focus at that end of the field; surrendering 13, 19, and 19 goals during the three game skid.   Despite all of that, the Titans - with a win on Sunday against Central Mich...

Close Finishes, Player of the Week Honors Highlight Detroit Mercy's Run

Detroit Mercy men's lacrosse has won three straight after a 14-13 win over Mercyhurst on Saturday, April 19.  Close Finishes The game ended in dramatic fashion. With just inside of four minutes to go, Mercyhurst asked for a stick check on Titans FOGO Canton Lanham. They were awarded a three minute non-releasable on Lanham, and would score twice to tie the game at 13. With less than a minute remaining, Chase Mahabir played the hero - splitting a double team out of a timeout and burying his fifth goal of the night. The win over the Lakers marks the second time the Titans have pulled out a one goal win during this three game winning streak. The first was an overtime win over VMI.  The streak puts Detroit Mercy at 3-3 in NEC play with a final game upcoming against Cleveland State.  Player of the Week In the past month, redshirt-freshman Marcus Thundercloud has won NEC Rookie of the Week three times.  Chase Mahabir has scored 11 times in his last two games, being named Pl...

Titans Finding Their Groove Late In Season

The University of Detroit Mercy men's lacrosse team has won back-to-back games in NEC play after defeating Wagner 15-11 at home on Saturday.  The 15 goals scored is a season-high; topping 11 goals scored vs Hampton and 10 goals against VMI. Over their last four games, the Titans offense - under first year coordinator Zach Palmer - is averaging 9.75 goals per game. Prior to that stretch, the offense was averaging just 5.8 goals per game across five games. Chase Mahabir tallied six goals and one assist on the afternoon. He earned NEC Player of the Week honors for his efforts. Head coach Charlie Hayes talked about Mahabir after the game calling him fast and physical. Hayes said that teams often try to put a long pole on Mahabir. However, Mahabir was able to find himself in some match-ups on a short stick, like the play below.   Andrew Parker scored three times for the Titans, and all three showed off some impressive range.  Coach Hayes said post-game that he's really ha...
